College & Career Ready Guide

Your future graduate is entering a highly competitive Oklahoma workforce. With approximately 53 percent of jobs in Oklahoma projected to require at least an associate’s degree or specialized credential in 2025, students will need to seek further training in high school to be college and career ready.

Why is it Important to get an Early Start?

It is never too early to start teaching your child about career awareness. It is important children become aware of how to prepare for a successful future. For information to help your child prepare for and transition into post-secondary life, view a few tips below. While in elementary school, you can help your child:

  • Discover the variety of careers available to them
  • Challenge them to connect what he or she is learning in the classroom to create solutions to real-world problems
  • Imagine himself or herself in an occupation and
  • Develop career-readiness skills such as working and playing with others, making decisions, solving problems and being a leader

Oklahoma Edge is the Oklahoma State Department of Education's commitment to ensuring all students have the opportunity and support to successfully secure a postsecondary degree or industry certification that reflects each individual’s passions and skills.
